2K Epoxy Information Page

Vintage Paint 2K epoxy is a high grade industrial product designed for the absolute toughest environments. I think that a snowmobile chassis qualify for this.
This is available in two colors, white or black. Two package sizes, Aerosol and Quart kits. Please note that custom sized kits can be made up. Also note that you must purchase 3 aerosols. This is due to how I must mix them. A set of ski's will easily burn up one can as this is designed to be applied fairly heavy. The more product, the better for this primer. If you truly want only one aerosol, I will put you on a waiting list and mix extra when I mix for another customer.
Black: I would recommend this for most applications requiring a dark color
White: I would recommend this when the color will be Yellow (Ski-Doo), Orange, (Moto-Ski) and others.
Technical data
Substrates: This can be applied to most surfaces. Steel, Aluminum, Fiberglass etc. Surface should be clean and free of grease and other contamination. I would not use this in applications that require a flexible product, no epoxies are flexible.
Time between coats: Depending on temperature, but at 70 degrees, please leave 30 minutes between coats. This product can be sprayed down to 45 degrees, but dry/flash times will be prolonged a LOT!
Recoating: When using aerosols, and un-catalyzed top coats, the primer must dry and then be sanded. You can sand the epoxy in 24-36 hours. When using catalyzed product, you can topcoat without sanding in 4 hours minimum, 24 hours maximum. After 24 hours you must sand. These times are at 70 degrees.
Filler application: I put my filler on top of this primer. I like to let the primer set and cure for 7 days (good and dry, you be the judge). Then sand the epoxy with 180 grit and apply my filler. The benefit of this is you now have corrosion protection UNDER your filler! Most restoration shops use this technique.
Storage of primed parts: If enough primer is applied, you can store the part indefinitely. This primer will give rust protection unlike most primers that need a top coat to give protection. This primer is actually considered a top coat, but it will chalk if left outside in the UV rays. (sunlight). The white will turn yellow, the black will chalk. This is an excellent shop primer. If storing, i would recommend about 4 coats with aerosol, and 2 with liquid.
Storage of primer:
Aerosols, keeping them cool will help prolong shelf life. I do not recommend putting them in a refrigerator. I have seen 4 weeks shelf life at fairly high summer temps, but I am going to figure 3 weeks. Please order 8-9 days before you need the product. Please shake aerosols THOURGHLY before spraying. Minimum 2 minutes. Once the primer has started to set up, it will start to clog your nozzle.
Bulk primer, indefinite shelf life. Epoxy pigments are heavy and will settle quickly. It is good to keep it stirred up monthly. If it settles and becomes a brick at the bottom, you have a brick. The activator portion generally doesn't settle.
Technical Attributes: This primer has excellent corrosion protection and has been tested to 5000 salt spray hours. Chemical resistance is rated as excellent. I personally took urethane gun cleaner and rubbed this product constantly for 10 minutes. I wore out the rag but did not wipe much of the primer off. While the rag did turn black, it was from the abrasive qualities of the rag, not the urethane gun cleaner actually biting into the primer. Try that with what you are using!!! If applied to 12 mils dry, this can be submerged UNDER water. Yes, under water. It is that good!
A test using the aerosol version. This is a powdercoated rack that had some rust and flaking powder. I sandblasted the worst areas. The whole thing should have been sandblasted, but I didn't because this was a test. I applied the aerosol 2k epoxy and let sit about 5 days. I then took urethane gun cleaner on a rag and started wiping. Here are the results. You see a minimal amount of primer that rubbed off onto the rag. Keep in mind, I rubbed for about 10 minutes.
